Stay at home mom and fitness model
When did you get started with fitness?
I actually started when I was in high school. I felt like I was getting fat, so I started eating healthier and going to the gym. Looking back, I did everything wrong, lol. But it was getting started that was important, and now 11 years later I have learned so much!
What drives you to be so fit?
In the beginning it was, dare I say it, vanity 🙂 but now, the more I learn and the older I get, it is definitely more about health and longevity. Especially now that I have a son. I want to be the best role model for him possible!
What has been the hardest obstacle for you to overcome?
To date I would say pregnancy. My son is 7 months old and while I am back at my previous weight and back into my old clothes, I still have a lot of work ahead to get my body back into its optimal shape!
Could you tell us about your current training program?
Currently I am in the gym lifting 5 days a week and cardio 5-6 days a week. My split is a little different each week but in general it looks something like this: Sunday-quads, Mon-shoulders, Tues-back/bi, Wed-hams, & Thurs-Chest/tri
What does your diet look like?
My typical diet consists of chicken/turkey/fish for protein and a whole ton of organic veggies (as close to RAW as possible). I eat some carbs in the morning (organic steel cut oats) and sometimes fruit. I also do a lot of juicing. And of course my healthy fats…peanut butter, almonds, avocado. Everything I eat (or as much as humanly possible) is organic, it really makes a difference how your body assimilates organic vs. non-organic.
Do you take any supplements?
I take several vitamins (all organic whole food) and super foods. I like to rotate my super foods…currently I am taking Maca, colostrum, spirulina, and amazing grass. I drink protein shakes sometimes, I like Orgain, Tera’s whey, and a few raw/vegan lines, but try and get most of my protein from whole organic foods.
What Is Your Favorite Body Part To Train?
I love to train shoulders 🙂
If you could start back from the first day you started training would you do anything different?
I would probably do everything different 🙂 Now I have a trainer (my wonderful husband) he has had to reteach me good form on everything 🙁 It’s amazing I never got hurt! I also lift a lot heavier now and my diet back then was atrocious!
Is there anyone in the fitness industry you look up to?
One of my inspirations and good friend Marzia Prince is definitely someone I look up to! I go to her for good nutrition advice! And for weight lifting, competition, and industry advice I have the privilege of getting advice from my mentor, trainer, and husband Brett Buckles.
Final advice for readers?
My husband and I live by motivational quotes, so I will just share one of them with you!
“People become really quite remarkable when they start thinking that they can do things. When they believe in themselves they have the first secret of success.” -Norman Vincent Peale
If you believe it, you can achieve it! No matter what it is!!
